    LEVEL ‘A’ COURSE FOR CRICKET COACHES

    Pre-requisites:

    ·         Any individual who has played cricket at national / state / district / university / club level

    ·         In good physical condition.

     

    Course Duration:

    5 days (30 hours) of lectures, practicals and workshops, followed by a day for examination.

     

    Syllabus:

    1. Generic topics

    The role of the coach, coaching philosophy, coaching styles and the process of teaching skills

    The Laws and Spirit of Cricket

    The relationship between the coach, player and his/her parents

    Safety and first aid for cricket-related injuries

    Introduction to fitness and the parameters of fitness

    Warm up, stretching and warm down procedures

    Goal setting in sport

    Effective management of a cricket practice session

    The process of learning sports skills - games versus traditional method

     

    2. Cricket-specific topics

    Batting basics:

    ·         Grip

    ·         Stance

    ·         Back-lift

    ·         Downswing

    ·         Vertical and horizontal defensive and attacking shots

    ·         Running between the wickets 

     

    Bowling basics:

    ·         Basic bowling action

    ·         Pace bowling

    ·         Spin bowling

     

    Fielding basics:

    ·         Catching

    ·         Attacking and defensive fielding

    ·         Throwing

    ·         Wicket-keeping

     

    Captaincy and Leadership

    Course assessment requirements:

    Attend all units

    Theory and Practical examination (minimum 75%)

     

    LEVEL ‘B’ COURSE FOR CRICKET COACHES

    Aim:

    To prepare coaches who can develop players at State Academies and to handle State junior teams effectively using the basics of biomechanics and sports sciences.

     

    Prerequisites:

    ·         Level 'A' qualified coach

    ·         Minimum 12 months coaching experience,

    ·         Attended Level 'A' refresher course

    ·         In good physical condition.

     

    Duration:

    36 hours of lectures, practicals and workshops, followed by an examination.

     

    Syllabus:

    Generic Topics

    ·         Exercise physiology as applied to cricket:  energy systems; muscle fibre types; basic cardio-respiratory physiology

    ·         Planning and periodisation of an annual, monthly, weekly training cycle

    ·      Long-term athlete development:  fundamental;  learning to train;  training to train; training to compete; training to win

    ·         Skill acquisition:  closed & open skills;  phases of motor learning

    ·         Sports psychology:  motivation;  concentration;  emotional control;  visualization

    ·         Sports injuries:  causes, prevention and management of common injuries in cricket

    ·         Sports nutrition:  hydration;  macro and micronutrients;  pre- and post-game meals

    ·    Role of the coach at State level:  reinforcement;  organization;  communication;  leadership;  counselling

     

    Cricket-specific Topics

    ·         Error detection and correction of various cricket skills

    ·         Basic Biomechanical principles applied to sport

    ·         Video Recording and analysis of cricket skills

    ·         Tactical aspects of cricket

     

     

    Course Assessment Requirements:

    ·         Attend all the units in the course

    ·         Theory and practical examination (minimum 60%)

    ·         Satisfactory completion of project work

     

    LEVEL ‘C’ FOR CRICKET COACHES

    Theme:

    High-performance coaching

     

    Aim:

    To prepare coaches to handle the development of elite cricketers and cricket teams, using the advanced principles of biomechanics and sports sciences, along with the knowledge of tactical and team management issues.

     

    Pre-requisites:

    ·         Level 'B' qualified coach

    ·         Minimum 24 months work experience

    ·         Attended Level 'B' refresher course

    ·         In good physical condition.

     

    Course Duration:

    15 days (90 hours) of lectures, practicals and workshops, followed by an examination

     

    Syllabus:

    Generic topics

    ·         Role of the coach at the senior level:

    ·         Sports conditioning for endurance, strength, speed, stability and power

    ·         Advanced sports nutrition, including use of supplements

    ·         Doping

    ·         Advanced sports psychology and mental toughness including self-belief, focus, handling pressure, resilience, sport intelligence, positive perfectionism, motivation, discipline and commitment

    ·         The process of team development - Stages of team building, strategies for developing cohesion. 

     

    Cricket-specific topics:

    ·         Principles of biomechanics

    ·         Balance and stability

    ·         Momentum

    ·         Impulse

    ·         Force generation and summation

    ·         Moment of inertia

    ·         Biomechanics of cricket – batting, bowling, fielding

    ·         Game-sense training

    ·         Tactical aspect of cricket

    ·         History of the game

    ·         Laws of cricket

    ·         Basics of pitch management

     

    Course Assessment Requirements:

    ·         Attend all units covered in the course

    ·         Theory and practical examination (minimum 70%)

    ·         Satisfactory completion of assignments
